So, I’m still doing the Zumba thing at the Wellness Center. My knees are handling it, but all that bouncing around has a tendency to loosen my shoelaces.
Fortunately, I recalled that less than a month ago, Lifehacker had a post on this very problem…
Ditch the Granny Knot to Tie Your Shoes More Efficiently
So I brought my shoes and feet over to the computer and found this…
Yep…reef knot on the left, granny knot on the right (and it was the right shoe lace that kept coming undone).
Does this fall into the “a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds” category?
Despite lots of people getting hung up on the ‘consistency’ part, I think ‘foolish’ is the kicker. If it’s causing a problem, how is worrying about consistency foolish? Worrying somebody might stare at your shoes long enough to notice you’re using different knots? That’s foolish. Not wanting your laces to come undone at inopportune moments? Nah.
Did you KNOW you were tying two different knots? Perhaps you have an unconscious inconsistency. Be sure to check for matching shoes when you leave home…
I hate to admit it (
) *but* I have put on mismatched shoes…..all the same color but still…..took to keeping a PAIR in the car.
Thanks for the video, Lynn; that sure solves a mystery!
